Polar Panoramas on the web
So my tutorial page is well underway with all the basics covered. I wrote it because I couldn’t find any other tutorials on the web that go in depth into describing the mechanics of cleaning up these images once you have captured them. I guess this borders into basic Photoshop skills, however it took me a while to narrow down to a few techniques that can accomplish most fixes relating to PanoPlanets. Hopefully you’ll agree. I’d thought I’d maintain an updated list of websites with tutorials on creating PanoPlanets.
However as I coined the term PanoPlanet you won’t find much in a Google search other than links back to this website. The more popular name is polar panorama,
Anyway so here’s a rundown of some of the tutorials on the web I’ll keep adding to this post as I find new sites.

This article on photojojo, explains how to create polar panoramas using Photoshop. Its a good high level overview which also explains using less than 360 degree panoramas to create PanoPlanets. Photojojo also has some interesting articles not relating to PanoPlanets.

the Instructables website has a number of tutorials relating to Hugin and other software specifics, this article is a very high level overview, not as detailed as the Photojojo site.
http://www.3drender.com/light/PolarPan/index.htm
This site gives a quick overview using Photoshop as well, and introduces the idea of “making up space” prior to projecting.

Nice website you have going on here. Thanks for the link btw!
One thing you might want to keep in mind is that the PhotoJojo tutorial only shows people how to do the faux/fake planets. Taking a full 360×180 panorama will get you REAL results with no squeezed up distortion in the middle of the image
See you around!
